My Mum's Thyroid Surgery

My mum is about to be wheeled into the operating theatre anytime now. She's having her thyroid removed. I ask for your prayers and positive thoughts as she goes through this. Thank you.

    1. My mom has been having problems with her thyroid for awhile now. It has been swelling to the point that it has been giving her problems were breathing and swallowing are concerned. Multiple nodule goiter. If left alone, there is a high possibility of it turning cancerous. And my mom's family side has a few thyroid cases. My cousin (my maternal grandmother's sister's granddaughter) has hypothyroidism. My maternal grandmother's sister too had her thyroid removed. I am not surprised that my mom had hers removed. Hopefully mine will be well until the day I die.

    2. Because in 2008, I had a swelling in my thyroid and I had to go for an aspiration and a biopsy. All was well. But it was infected and I was placed on antibiotics. According to the scan, I have a lot of cysts in my thyroid. I hope that they have all disappeared.

    3. You can't be "hopeful" that your thyroid will be well without doing anything. That's like saying "I hope I won't go into anaphylactic shock" but you wear perfume anyway. All a family history means is that you eat the same things. Maybe you need to question WHY you and the people in your family have thyroid problems.

Hypothyroidism is a symptom of something else, as are goiters. If you don't do something to remove the symptoms it will get worse, no matter how hopeful you are, I can almost guarantee that. You don't want it to get so bad some quack doctor thinks the best solution is to cut it out or your hormone levels will be screwed the rest of your life and you'll be force to take drugs to try to keep everything balanced. Drugs don't work for everyone.

    4. Well, I am doing all I can with this limited diet and lifestyle that I am living with.

    5. Your limited diet is probably contributing to keeping your thyroid in check. Was your mom limiting her diet in any way? I know extremely well how much sacrifice we have to make to stay healthy. Still, there might be some very simple remedies that might guarantee to keep your thyroid in check. Even if you don't want to limit your diet more, at least being aware of them might offer you some temporary relief if your thyroid start acting up again. Better than surgery especially since surgery might be just as hazardous to your health if not more.

Just watching out for you because I care...
