The Journey in Healing the Gut (2)

I've eliminated sugar and gluten from my diet since November last year due to the crippling IBS attacks. The IBS has settled unless I accidentally ingest the trigger-foods. Otherwise it's peaceful and quiet. No more living on Freddy Kruger's Nightmare on IBS Street.

There have been some people who have dropped by this blog and stated that I've seem to have gone down the path of the orthorexia nervosa. Believe me when I say that I am not afraid of eating. Even my doctors are afraid for me when I say that I experiment eating new foods! They caution me to go slow and not to overdo it.

So this journey in healing the gut has brought on a very positive turn.

I am able to tolerate more foods on the high-end of salicylates.

I can now eat toasted sesame seed oil, organic potato chips (YES, I almost fainted from ecstasy after consuming that! I think I even heard the heavens open up with HALLELUJAHs beaming down!!), broccoli, strawberry, and goji berry. So my list of foods that I can now eat is getting longer and that is VERY good news to me.

So to those who say that I am heading to a path of self-destruction by eliminating sugar and gluten, put yourself in my shoes. Would you rather live in excruciating pain everyday and be on an exceedingly limited diet or eliminate sugar and gluten and be pain-free and start to be able to eat a wider list of foods?

I can't wait to be able to eat ginger, curry, spices, watermelon, oranges, kiwi, and loads and loads of other healthy food out there.

  1. Hooray! Ignore the pessimists who give their self-centered opinions that have nothing to do with your own personal health. "Nothing tastes as good as feeling good does!" So are you now thinking the anaphylaxis issues are directly related to the gut? It sounds like it. You have found an answer! Be patient and all will improve. Stick with the healthy foods: fresh fruits veggies and meats. If you start venturing into the packaged or processed you might not get far.

    1. Yes, I am hoping to be able to eat more types of fruits and vegetables. Also spices and herbs. I don't know whether the anaphylaxis was triggered by the gut but I do know my healing seems to lie in it.

  2. Have you noticed any improvement with chemical sensitivity? Are you becoming less sensitive to fragrances? That's my hope that all this gut healing and diet will reduce the load and make me less sensitive.

    1. I have actually have become 'more' tolerant to fragrances. There are still many smells I cannot tolerate, but I don't get 'ill' so fast now. It also depends as when the period comes, my resistance is lower and I tend to be 'sensitive' again. But this new phase is still very new and I am still finding my footing. I am still happy with how things have turned out so far. :)

  3. By the way, I'm now also able to eat food which have been kept in the fridge overnight. I used to get very bad reaction (burning of the mouth and tongue, severe migraine, crippling pain and diarrhoea). Am able to tolerate it now. Of course I don't do this frequently. But I've also improved in this area. TOUCH WOOD!!! Ahahahahahaha!!!

    1. HOORAY! I wonder what the key is? Do you think it was the gluten all along destroying your gut making your whole body react? They say if you have leaky gut the toxins get into your blood stream. Maybe not eating gluten gave your gut a chance to heal, blocked the leak and you are no longer being poisoned?

So wonderful you have found some answers or at least are getting good results!

  4. Hey Evelyn, glad to hear that you are eating a wider list of foods now - you are getting there!

Not sure why someone would object not eating gluten and sugar, you know what is best for you!

Have you tried air-fryer in cooking? Just thought that might be another healthy option for you- sorry if I'm totally wrong!

    1. Hi Lily!

Well there are people who drop by, and after reading just one post, came to the conclusion that I am not eating healthy and decided to email me and 'advice' me that I am heading to the path of destruction. If they had read the other posts that I had posted, they would have come to a totally different conclusion.

    2. The air-fryer is quite expensive. Don't think that is something I would want to invest right now. Will do so in the future. Thanks Lily!!!
